Primary Engineer and Secondary Engineer

Leaders Award launch event
Fri 26th October 10:30am

Ulster University, Jordanstown Campus

The Leaders Award competition asks young people to interview engineers from across sectors to find out more about their routes into engineering and how they use problem-solving in their job. Pupils are then posed the question, ‘If you were an engineer, what would you do?’ Pupils need to identify a problem in the world and use engineering to solve it. You can see previous entries at Each year, winners and shortlisted entries are exhibited to share the amazing creativity and problem-solving skills of young people and one design is selected to be developed into a prototype.

The competition has been running for the past five years and we are incredibly excited that thanks to Ulster University and Thales we will be launching in Northern Ireland this year for the first time.

On Friday 26th October, pupils and teachers are invited to meet and interview engineers as part of the launch event. Stephen Metcalfe MP who leads on the Year of Engineering campaign will be our special guest.
