    26 May 2026 19:00 to 20:00
The Royal Scots Club - EDINBURGH
The UK possesses one of the greatest offshore wind resources in the world, with floating wind opening access to vast new areas of deeper water previously beyond reach. This lecture explores how offshore and floating wind could transform the UK’s energy system, economy, and industrial base. It will examine the scale of renewable energy that can realistically be delivered, the challenge of Dunkelflaute, and the engineering, storage, and system solutions needed to build a resilient net-zero future.
Industry: Energy transfer & thermofluid mechanics

    Webinar
During this webinar we will provide an overview of Further Learning and what it includes.
    Industry: Cross-sector
  • Event Type: Talk or debate
    14 April 2026 19:00 to 20:00
Usha Kasera Lecture Theatre - University of Edinburgh
A fascinating tour of this exciting biomedical material looking at the PAST (including the long-standing desire to reverse engineer silk), as well as biocompatibility and biodegradation in humans. PRESENT clinical uses (e.g., sutures, surgical meshes, fabrics), clinical trials (e.g., wound healing, tissue engineering) and FUTURE applications such as silk solution, films, scaffolds, electrospun materials, hydrogels, and more. We hope you can join us for a visit to the fascinating world of silk!

  • Event Type: Technical lecture
    10 March 2026 19:00 to 20:00
The Royal Scots Club - EDINBURGH
Mechanical metamaterials are redefining what “good” structural materials can do—from expanding laterally under tension to exhibiting negative stiffness and exceptional energy dissipation. In this lecture we will survey the key opportunities and challenges in this emerging field, review the design of complex metamaterials with dedicated physical properties and examine a roadmap for real-world adoption of these unique structures.
    Industry: Aerospace materials and structures
  • Event Type: Technical lecture
    10 February 2026 19:00 to 20:00
The Royal Scots Club - EDINBURGH
This keynote will present the University of Glasgow’s approach to in-space manufacturing, from early-stage technology development through to patented manufacturing concepts and a parabolic flight campaign that provided critical microgravity validation. The talk will introduce the UK Space Agency–funded Multi-Purpose Environmental Chamber (MPEC), developed to rigorously assess environmental, mechanical, and long-term risks associated with manufacturing in space.
    Industry: Aerospace Industries
