Get Ready to Speak Out for Engineering!

Attention all young engineers! Join us for the Glasgow & Edinburgh Heat of the Speak Out for Engineering Presentation Competition, an annual event that has been inspiring young professionals since 1964!

This competition isn't just about technical know-how; it’s a chance to prove that you can communicate complex ideas effectively. Open to any Affiliate, Associate, or Young Member of the Institution who has been registered for ten years or less, this event emphasises the art of verbal and visual communication in engineering.

What’s in store?

  • Exciting Prizes: Compete for a £300 cash prize for the winner and£200 for the runner-up!
  • Present Your Passion: You’ll have 20 minutes to deliver a captivating oral presentation on a mechanical engineering topic of your choice. Afterward, engage in a lively 10-minute discussion with our judging panel!
  • Focus on Communication: With 90% of your score based on presentation skills and only 10% on technical content, this is your chance to shine, whether your project is high-tech or more straightforward.
  • 3 Judges: This year our judges come from a diverse background to support all presentations!

The winner will be entered into the regional competitions with the chance to compete nationally and internationally.

Key information;

  • You can prepare a presentation for your talk.
  • Participants will be required to share a brief outline before the event.

The Speak Out for Engineering competition not only hones your presentation skills but also fosters a love for effective communication in the engineering field.  We can’t wait to see what you bring to the stage!
