Description

Date: Tuesday 26th October Time: 18:30-21:00 Location: St Judes Bar, 190 Bath St, Glasgow G2 4HG The Institution of Mechanical Engineers Glasgow Young Members Panel is hosting our annual 'Careers and Beers' event on Tuesday 26th of October, held at Saint Judes bar in Glasgow city centre. The event aims to give engineering students in the Glasgow area a more informal platform to meet and network with employers and gain an insight into potential careers in the UK engineering industry. In the past this has been a fantastic opportunity for 4th and 5th year students to learn about available graduate schemes and 1st-3rd year students learn about internships. The event works in a scheduled round-robin fashion with guests in small groups moving between tables to hear a 5 minute pitch about each of the different employers and opportunities and then 5 minutes to ask questions. As a part of the event all in attendance will receive one free drink on entry paid for by the committee. We will be requiring mandatory negative lateral flow tests from all attendees on entry. Confirmed companies so far are: Spirit Aerosystems, Babcock International, Nuclear Graduates, Scottish Water, Strathclyde Uni PhD's and more to come! The event is being generously sponsored by Spirit Aerosystems, the world's largest first-tier aerostructures manufacturer. The company builds several important pieces of Boeing aircraft, including the fuselage of the 737, portions of the 787 fuselage, and the cockpit section of the fuselage of nearly all of its airliners. Spirit recently opened the Aerospace Innovation Centre, which will explore new, more efficient approaches to the design and manufacture of aerostructures such as wings, using lightweight composite material technology to reduce flight emissions and lower costs.
