Description

We are delighted to offer the opportunity to visit JFD’s National Hyperbaric Centre in a joint event with The Weld Institute.
Established in 1987, JFD’s National Hyperbaric Centre in Aberdeen is a unique facility providing specialist expertise and services to subsea and pressure-related industries. Home to a 24 man land based Saturation Diving System fitted out with the latest hyperbaric medical technology, it has the capability to maintain 16 divers under saturation pressure for 28 days to depths up to 300msw.
Within the facility hyperbaric services are provided to NHS as well as training and hyperbaric rescue for commercial diving companies, including a reception facility for hyperbaric lifeboats.

The testing capability within NHC houses some of the largest pressure testing facilities in the world where the highly experienced staff manage a variety of specialist testing projects including hyperbaric testing to 800bar. At the heart of the NHC is a deep simulation facility capable of manned and unmanned testing. The 3m diameter by 8m hydrostatic test chamber can simulate subsea environmental conditions to a depth of 1,000msw and altitudes to a height of 55,000ft.
One of the many services JFD facilitate is hyperbaric welding trials for companies looking to qualify their diver welders prior to mobilisation offshore, with facilities for both dry and wet welding.
The visit will consist of a tour of the facilities including the saturation dive system, a presentation on the capabilities of the NHC and a basic introduction to saturation diving and hyperbaric welding. There will be opportunity for questions during the tour & presentation.
Please bring safety shoes and arrive prior to 18:30 as the event will start promptly. In order to maximise numbers, tours & presentation may be split into separate groups.
The National Hyperbaric Centre is situated near Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, and there is onsite parking at the NHC.
