Kincardine Floating Offshore Windfarm is the world’s largest grid-connected floating windfarm. It’s turbines, at around 190 metres tall, are also the largest turbines to be placed on floating substructures. Kincardine has proven the technological and commercial readiness of floating offshore wind and the lessons learned and experiences gained are renowned globally.
Flotation Energy has bases in both Edinburgh and Aberdeen, and have been a significant contributor to building a strong offshore wind industry in the UK and beyond with a growing project pipeline. They manage 13GW of offshore wind projects across the UK, Ireland, Taiwan, Japan and Australia, with plans to expand into many more key markets.
Flotation Energy has arranged for a boat trip (duration ~ 2.5 hrs) for IMechE members (18 or over) to visit Kincardine Floating Offshore Windfarm, located 15 km off the Aberdeen coast.
During your visit, Floatation Energy will introduce & discuss the Green Volt and Cenos Floating Offshore Wind developments, both located in the North Sea. They will deliver renewable electricity to oil and gas platforms by replacing electricity currently generated by gas turbines, while simultaneously delivering renewable electricity to the UK grid.
These nationally significant projects will make a significant contribution to the North Sea Transition Deal’s goal to halve offshore emissions by 2030, as well as to the UK’s overall goal to reduce carbon emissions. In total the projects will reduce CO2 emissions by 3 million tonnes every year once fully operational.
