A presentation:”MY DAY IN THE LIFE OF FLYING SCOTSMAN” by fireman Jack Johnson will explain how the locomotive is prepared for service and will reveal some of his experiences driving and firing this icon of the steam age.
Light refreshments (tea/coffee and biscuits) will be provided.
Delegates will then be taken on a conducted tour of the locomotive, including access to the footplate via the corridor tender. NB. This visit will not be suitable for small children; sensible clothing and stout shoes are mandatory; the locomotive will be in light steam - hot/oily/dirty surfaces may be encountered.
Jack Johnson has been associated with Flying Scotsman for nearly ten years, initially working with Riley & Son Engineering in Bury during a recent major overhaul. Subsequently working for West Coast Railways as a fireman on mainline operations, he has many experiences to reveal.
