Shieldhall, Tour and Sailing.

We welcome the IMechE and OLS members to our Shieldhall, Tour and Sailing event. That just happens to be the Shieldhall’s ‘Cowes Week Launch Event Cruise’, details below:

Steam down Southampton Water to the Solent, and pass the cruise ships in berth. We will see the yachts racing at Cowes Week, and enjoy the colourful spectacle of this popular annual event. Get your cameras at the ready! Very popular with photographers, Shieldhall is a very stable vessel and provides a wonderful viewing and photographic platform. A guest commentator will explain the nuances of the racing and what and who to look out for!

As part of your cruise, see the impressive engine room with its original steam engines at work and the bridge, with its traditional instruments and gleaming brasswork; admire the ship’s steam assisted steering gear (similar to that used on Titanic); talk to the Captain and our volunteer crew; listen to an informed commentary on the sights and sounds of Southampton Water and the Solent; pass close to the great ocean liners and container ships; walk the teak decks; relax in the Saloon with our wide range of refreshments including tea / coffee; a range of Titanic bottled beers; wine and hot and cold food, available on all trips. Courtesy parking is available close to the berth.

Children will have fun with our interactive Shieldhall Log Book, collecting stickers from various stations on board!


Steamship Shieldhall is normally berthed at Berth 110 in Southampton Docks on the south coast of England.

All sailings from Southampton will depart from Berth 110 unless different instructions are given to you as part of your joining instructions for your excursion.
