Welcome to the Portsmouth and Isle of Wight Area

Part of the Wessex Region, we pride ourselves on supporting the interests of our members.

Your area committee is putting together an exciting programme of events for you. Additionally thanks to a small group of committee members on the IOW, we are looking to run a number of events - lectures and visits - on the island in addition to those on the mainland.

These events are great opportunities for Continued Professional Development, and for Professional and Social Networking. You are encouraged to come to as many as you can and to bring colleagues and friends, as our events which promote engineering are open to all. Please take to time to read what exciting things we are proposing and hopefully book those which interest you most.

Our programme will have events which will cover all the IMechE’s themes, Energy and the Environment, Manufacturing, Transport, Medical and Education as we want there to be “something for everybody” - see the "Past Events" in the frame on the left for a flavour.

Under Education we are hoping to run and support a number of STEM and Primary Engineer events in Schools. We are also looking to increase the awareness of STEM Teachers of the resources we can offer and will be running events in both Portsmouth Area. We need more STEM ambassadors and supporters for Primary Engineer – Please contact us if you would like to volunteer in this way.

Please monitor our Near You Events pageIMeche Wessex Facebook and IMechE Wessex Region LinkedIn pages for details of our upcoming events.

As an Area we actively support our members attain higher grades of membership, please contact the Chair or Secretary for advice / guidance at any time.  We also regularly host a ‘Get Registered’ Event where more formal guidance is provided by the IMechE Business Development Management Team.  (There is a specialist registration route and support for the Navy).

We are always looking to members to assist with the Area committee, and championing future events. If you are interested, please contact the Chair or Secretary to find out more about the roles or to offer your suggestions.
