Tour of Wheal Jane Mine Water Treatment

Saturday 13th May - 10:30 am

Join the Devon & Cornwall committee on a tour of Wheal Jane Mine Water Treatment Plant.

Wheal Jane Mine was once a tin mine near Baldhu, Cornwall which closed in 1992. Later that year a catastrophic incident occurred when contaminated water was released into the Carnon River and the Fal Estuary. The biggest water contamination incident in the UK. More than 45 million litres of acidic mine water was released.

The Wheal Jane Mine Water Treatment scheme treats the mine water pumped from below ground using a high density sludge process.

In October 2020, John F Hunt Regeneration was awarded the contract and began operating the plant.

Tour will begin at 10:30 am, parking onsite available

Free event but please book a place. To attend this tour please wear sensible closed toe footwear.

If you are unable to attend the tour, please notify the committee so we can reissue places.
