Fusion, a process involving forcing together positively-charged ions that ordinarily repel each other, is described as the ideal energy source because it is safe and the fuels inexhaustible. Tokamak Energy has a novel approach that aims for commercial fusion energy earlier than conventional approaches. Our expert speaker from there will address fusion physics, how the energy potentially could be generated, outline the novel approach, and give an indication of what we might expect in the future.

Gloucestershire’s new “Energy from Waste” facility is a key element of local waste management. Operational in 2019, it takes waste that would otherwise go to landfill and produces electricity. Its design and operation is of great interest to engineers. The 2-hour visit involves a presentation and a walking-tour of some of the facility. The walking tour takes in the Waste Reception Hall, Waste Bunker, and a view of the waste burning on the grate.
    Industry: Bulk materials handling
