Description
Guided Tour of REME Museum at Lyneham Saturday 6th April 2019
The IMechE Swindon Area Committee has organised a guided tour of the Corps of Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers Museum at Lyneham. The Museum opened three years ago, having moved from its location at the former Home of REME in Arborfield.
The Corps was formed in 1942 and, to quote Montgomery of El-Alamein, REME exists “to keep the punch in the Army’s fist”. Wherever the British Army are, whatever the Unit is, there you will find REME.
The REME Museum preserves the heritage of the Corps. The Museum provides a unique, interactive experience for all ages. With seven galleries to explore there is lots to see and do. Learn more about the Museum here http://www.rememuseum.org.uk/
This event is open to family and friends. For members, The Institution will pay the entry fee and tour, and provide a bacon roll on arrival. The costs for non-members are:
Adult/Child Entry fee and tour £6 each. Entry fee only is £4 each.
The guided tour group size is maximum 20. Clearly, members will take priority but family members will be welcome to join if there is space.
WHEN – Saturday 6th April 2019. Meeting at 10:00 am for a bacon roll in the Crown’s Café, which is at the Museum. The tour will start at 10:30 and last 1½ to 2 hours. The Crown’s Café serves great food, the cakes are highly recommended, and is a good option for lunch afterwards.
