Description
Nature knows best! Staff and STEM Ambassadors from the National Marine Aquarium will demonstrate how some marine organisms have mastered the laws of physics to survive.
Did you know that Octopuses use jet propulsion to swim? Or that turtles have ballast tanks like a submarine? Find out how these, and other marine organisms work, and make some models to prove it!
Children aged 7-15 will be able to make models to demonstrate physics in action, Blue Peter style! We will have a large pool to test their creations in.
In addition, engineers and STEM Ambassadors from Babcock International will demonstrate how physics is used in submarine and ship design with an interactive exhibit.
All of the workshop activities are designed to meet the learning objectives for National Curriculum Key Stages 2 and 3 in Science. The activities were developed in partnership with Caroline Alliston FIMechE from Technology For Fun.
Speaker(s)
Caroline Alliston is a professional engineer and technical author with a degree from Cambridge and twenty four years experience in industry. She started a school club to enthuse children about science and engineering. Before long there were more children on the waiting list than in the actual club!
