Rope-Washer Pump Demonstration
Competition Event

Description
Engineers Without Borders will show you how to make a water pump from common building materials and household waste! Why? Because in remote parts of the world, where mains water is not available, this simple device can make the difference between life and death by providing access to safe drinking water.
This "rope-washer pump" of pump is often used in disaster recovery situations, or in remote parts of the world where access to workshop facilities is limited. It really captures the imagination of everyone who sees it!
The pump will be driven by a bicycle (supplied by Rockets and Rascals), which participants will have the opportunity to ‘ride’. There will be a competition to see who can pump the most water in a minute!
The pump was designed and built by volunteers from the IMechE and EWB and it was sponsored by Babcock International and Rockets and Rascals.
