Description

The talk will cover the basic concepts and attraction of fusion as an energy source. It will go on to review the activities at UKAEA at developing fusion as a technology, including the Joint European Torus. It will review the principle technical challenges and avenues of research to meet them and will finally explore the status of the research landscape in Europe and beyond. 

Mark Shannon a mechanical engineer with 25 years’ experience, roughly half of which is in Speciality Chemicals / Oil and Gas, half of which is in fusion research. He has always been involved in the execution of projects, undertaking the full lifecycle in petrochems, then in Fusion, focussing more on conceptual design and Project Management. He is now head of the Project Management Office at UKAEA.
