This event has finished

This is the 119th Engineering Heritage Award being awarded by the IMechE. Levant Mine would like to invite the local IMechE membership and the general public to this prestigious celebration.
The unveiling will be performed by IMechE Representative, John Challenger, IMechE Cornwall Representative, along with Ian Marsh, the General Manager for the West Cornwall portfolio in the National Trust and Ron Flaxman, Trevithick Society Member and dedicated volunteer at Levant Mine and Beam Engine.

The event will begin at 10:30 am at Levant with a warm welcome on site, followed by several speakers setting the context of the IMechE Engineering Heritage Awards and the particular merits of the Levant Mine Beam Engine. The ceremony will start with Ian Marsh, the West Cornwall General Manager introducing Levant and the National Trust, followed by a speech and unveiling of the plaque by John Challenger and then a ten-minute talk from Ron Flaxman on the restoration of the Beam Engine.

2018 marks 25 years since the Beam Engine was restored by a wonderful and dedicated team of volunteers, known as the ‘greasy gang’ and we feel being given this award acknowledges all of their achievements at Levant. There will then be a demonstration of the Beam Engine in action followed by hot Cornish pasties (V options available).

Tickets will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis; Levant is a small site and capacity is limited so please register interest early by emailing levant@nationaltrust.org.uk
