Description

Talk Title; “Design and Development of Aerospace Transmissions for Helicopters”

Synopsis;  – The lecture will provide an overview of the various components that make up a typical transmission, and the design studies and trade-offs that must be made at the development phase. Examples from recent projects undertaken at Leonardo will be given, with a focus on development of the up-rated transmission system for the AW159 Wildcat.  The speaker will also bring a 3rd scale Lynx gearbox, made by ALM for the audience “to have a play with”.

 

Biog of Speaker; Rob Mills – After graduating with a BEng in Mechanical Engineering at Bristol University, Rob started work on Transmissions at Leonardo Helicopters in 2007. Over his 11 years with the company, he has been involved with all phases of gearbox design & development, from initial scheming, development, qualification & flight tests, and in-service support.

 

The Venue is Exeter University – Harrison Building Lecture Room H004 on Thursday 18/10/10.

 

Time – 18:30  for coffee/tea etc. with he talk commencing at 19:00.
