The Mayflower Autonomous Ship (MAS) – Mission Update
MAS will navigate the ocean using intelligent automation with artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse real-time sensor inputs, decide and perform automated processes and collect large amounts of data along its route to support marine science and ocean exploration. The transatlantic voyage is the culmination of years of effort by ProMare, engineering partner Msubs, software partner Marine Ai, and our exclusive technology partner, IBM, who has provided a wide array of technology and deep expertise to facilitate full autonomy to safely navigate ocean waters while also conducting a host of important marine science experiments. Faced with the unpredictable and punishing conditions of the ocean, MAS project relies heavily on proven expertise and emerging technologies (AI and automation) to help eliminate the risks and costs that have made traditional ocean research so expensive and difficult.
