Gloucester Area is pleased to announce a rare opportunity for IMechE members to visit the facilities of Nicholson & Co, Pipe Organ Builders at Malvern, Worcestershire. Led by Andrew Caskie Managing Director. Members and guests will have the opportunity to see how Pipe Organs both old and new are built and refurbished.

Numbers are limited so prior booking via the IMechE website (see link) is required. Places will be allocated on a first come basis, however in the event of oversubscription we have the opportunity for an additional morning visit. Full joining details will be sent to you by e-mail on Monday 20 June.

Nicholson’s have always been at the forefront in the application of pneumatic and electro mechanical technology to the craft and science of pipe organ building so this is a chance to see how engineering and art come together to make fantastic music.

Nicholson Organs

Founded in the 1820’s by John Nicholson, Nicholson & Co are one of only a few Pipe Organ Builders still in business in the UK. They have built organs for hundreds of churches, from the south coast of England to the north of Scotland, as well as clients in China, Australia and New Zealand. Notable are those for Worcester Public Hall, Great Malvern Priory, and Gloucester Shire Hall and more recently Portsmouth Cathedral Southwell Minster, Llandaff Cathedral, Dean Close School, Cheltenham, and Holy Trinity Cathedral, Auckland.
