Description

ESI (Engage, Synchronise, Integrate) - How system assurance
and functional models integrated, developed and maintained
together, can efficiently adapt to new developments, with
adequate support from the interacting Organisational factors.
Reliability/Availability/Maintainability (RAM) and Usability / Human Factors (HF) Engineering have evolved into standalone disciplines. Each of these specialist disciplines have devised methods, tools and techniques which are assessed throughout system development to provide assurance cases and demonstrate compliance with various Standards.
Whilst these functional silos allow for easy work breakdown, the lack of synchronisation imports the risk of disparities in outputs and lack of integration. This risk has manifested into major challenges on a sample of recent Railway and Defence systems development projects where efforts required to achieve a coherent ‘product’ are much greater than any predicted estimates.
