Location/Venue: Cellar Bar Kennaway House EX10 8NG

Part of Sidmouth Science  Festival. A talk for Ada Lovelace Day.

Lisa Treseder will talk about Heat Pumps

Entry £2.50 to include a hot drink

Lisa Treseder, Director of Business Development

Professional Background: Lisa Treseder is an accomplished innovator in renewable energy and heat pump technology. Five years ago, Lisa joined Kensa to work on their first large Innovate UK project, Energy Superhub Oxford, focusing on reducing heat pump running costs through use of smart controls optimized for time-of-use tariffs.

Career Highlights:

  • Energy Superhub Oxford: Led the project aimed at optimizing heat pump running costs.
  • Heat the Streets: Secured funding and delivered a groundbreaking project demonstrating split ownership ground source heat systems. This project included the world’s first in-road retrofit of ground array infrastructure.

Current Role: Currently, Lisa’s work focuses on developing consumer offers for the retrofit market that break down the barriers to decarbonisation of heat. This includes development of finance options, including heat as a service, and heat network design incorporating waste heat to reduce capital cost.

Vision for Decarbonisation: Lisa believes in practical solutions for decarbonising heat in buildings, emphasizing the need for familiar, affordable, and achievable solutions that accommodate real people’s needs.

The talk:

Title: 21st century alternative to the gas network

Brief description: Join us for an in-depth exploration of heat pumps and their role in the future of sustainable heating. We’ll dispel common misconceptions, examine the latest developments in networked heat pump systems, and discuss practical solutions to reduce upfront costs through financing and government support. This talk will also address how the UK can accelerate heat pump adoption compared to Europe, and the potential of new business models like heat-as-a-service. If you're interested in the future of energy-efficient home heating, this session will provide valuable insights.

Longer description: Join us for a comprehensive session on the role of heat pumps in the future of sustainable heating and cooling. This talk will dispel common myths and misinformation about heat pumps, examining their efficiency, versatility, and ability to handle both heating and cooling—an increasingly crucial feature as global temperatures rise. We’ll explore various heat sources, including air, ground, water, and waste heat, showing how heat pumps can be applied in diverse settings, from homes to large buildings.

The session will also cover strategies to reduce capital and upfront costs, and we’ll look at emerging business models like heat-as-a-service, offering more affordable and flexible solutions.

Finally, we’ll compare the UK’s progress with Europe and examine the policy changes needed to speed up adoption here. Whether you're a homeowner, policymaker, or interested in energy-efficient heating and cooling, this talk will provide the insights you need to understand how heat pumps can shape a low-carbon, climate-resilient future.
