Description
A Recognition of Continuing Professional Development
The Western Aerospace Centre annual prize competition encourages Continuing Professional Development for Young Engineers who have previously graduated with a first degree.
Four finalists have been selected from a large number of good quality entries. The four finalists are:
- Eric Eckstein, University of Bristol: Morphing High Temperature Composites as Autonomous Actuators for Extreme Environments
- Dr Peter Thomas, University of Bristol: The Development of Simulation and Control Tools for Autonomous Air to Air Refuelling
- Yachao Wang, Messier-Dowty: A Heat Treatment Study on Internal Quenching
- Varun Thangamani, Cranfield University: Some Practical Considerations in the Search for Cavity Tone Suppression for Aircraft Weapons Bays
On the evening of Monday 15th April (18:00 for 18:30 start) at the University of Bristol, the finalists have the opportunity to present their work to a panel including engineering directors from the region’s leading Aerospace organisations. The overall winner will receive a £500 prize.
The finalists will also visit the Red Arrows for a full corporate day (likely to be in September) at RAF Scampton, including the Squadron presentation, the pilots’ briefing and interacting with RAF personnel. This is a great opportunity to see the operation of this team of very talented aviators.
