Description
Energy generation from biomass: challenges, opportunities and risk in the low carbon economy.
Biomass has been touted as a source of low carbon, sustainable energy that is economic, flexible and readily deployable into the UK energy infrastructure. Whilst this technology option appears to have many advantages over intermittent renewable technologies, there are technological and strategic barriers to the large-scale deployment of biomass systems in the UK.
This lecture will outline the current generating systems associated with solid, liquid and gas biomass generating plant, followed by an identification of some of the challenges faced by the industry in an uncertain future.
