THE LECTURE AT 7:30PM IS OPEN TO NON MEMBERS.
Over the last three decades or so, there has been an increasing trend in aerospace to move to non-metallic materials and composite structures. However, these ‘new’ materials are no panacea, particularly when taken in the context of the economic and environment challenges the industry faces currently and in the future.
In this lecture Adrian Allen makes the case for metals, highlighting new manufacturing techniques which open up opportunities previously not thought possible in an aerospace context.
Messier-Bugatti-Dowty has kindly arranged for the
AMRC to bring their ‘MANTRA’ demonstrator on-site for visiting prior to the lecture. MANTRA is a unique travelling showcase for advanced engineering, and facilities on-board include: a fully operational Mori-Seiki mill-turn CNC machine; video screens with customised content; and a 3-D virtual reality centre where visitors can actually dismantle a virtual jet engine!
Messier-Bugatti-Dowty has also kindly agreed to allow access for a tour of their Advanced Machining and Assembly Shops (please note that numbers are limited for this tour and for the MANTRA visit).
