Description

Aerospace Propulsion Technology: Present and Future Challenges

Colin Smith has worked in the aerospace industry at Rolls-Royce for over 39 years; joining the company as an undergraduate apprentice at the Leavesden engine factory in 1974. Throughout Colin’s career he has been instrumental in leading aero engine design, in particular developing the technologies and engineering to deliver more efficient and environmentally friendly propulsion. Colin was appointed as Director of Engineering and Technology in 2005, when he also became a member of the Board of Rolls-Royce.

In this talk Colin will describe the journey of modern aerospace propulsion technologies and the challenges for the future:  from the engineering and technology that have delivered the most efficient large aero engine in the world today – the Trent XWB – to the next generation of engine designs already in development and the research and technology challenges faced in delivering the future concepts for civil aviation.

No need to book for this lecture.  Open to members and non-members.
