Description

The Bath and Bristol Young Members Panel, in conjunction with the Institution of Structural Engineers and the Institution of Civil Engineers invite you to a free talk.

The innovative Swivel Bridge in Bristol City docks was designed by Brunel and its construction overseen by him unlike the Suspension Bridge which was built after his death to a design not his own.  The Swivel Bridge is arguably of greater historic importance than the Suspension Bridge, yet it is now derelict and will eventually collapse. A group of volunteers has taken on the heroic task of restoring the Swivel Bridge, but is the challenge a ‘bridge too far’ for voluntary effort?  Come and learn about Brunel’s Other Bridge, its problems and the ambitious project now under way to return this iconic structure to working order under hydraulic power.

The talk is free to attend and opens at 18:00 for an 18:30 start
