Description

A technical presentation and demonstration of the facilities at the Plymouth Electron Microscopy Centre (PEMC)

Thanks to recent ERDF investment, the PEMC is now equipped with a suite of leading-edge electron microscopes and associated analytical equipment (e.g confocal and light microscopes), to meet the needs of industry.

By visiting the PEMC with the IMechE, you will have the opportunity to meet the technical team and view relevant investigations which highlight the imaging and analysis capability of the Centre, using techniques such as EDS, large area mapping and EBSD for crystallographic study, which have been carried out for both small and large international companies.

These techniques help companies to:

·         Reduce waste - By identifying the causes of fractures

·         Increase quality - By providing objective precision measurement information (e.g plating thickness down to micro-metres)

·         Identify contaminants

·         New product and process development

And:

Usually the preserve of large companies (e.g UTC Aerospace Systems, Fine Tubes), companies with less than 250 employees and a turnover of less than €40m can now have 12 hours of free support from the PEMC team until March 2015 – feel free to bring along a sample on the day for analysis (just mention this when you book) - for more information about this, go to:

Parking will be available on the University Campus.
