The decarbonisation of heat is hard and the UK has a strong gas usage heritage with over 86% of all homes, some 23m, being connected to the gas grid. We also have around 2m homes not on the gas grid using even higher carbon emitting heating products such as oil and Lpg. It is looking like the choice of options for the majority of homes is narrowing down to either electricity or a carbon free gas such as hydrogen.
