Welcome to the South Western Railway Division Centre

Welcome to the website for the South Western Centre of the Railway Division of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers - IMechE. We hold meetings approximately monthly from September to April to which everyone is welcome. I am pleased to share our new programme of events in this my first year as chairman of the SW Centre. The past eighteen months have been very strange times for all of us and as I write this in July, we are hoping that the restrictions on our daily life will have been eased sufficiently by September 2021 and we will be permitted to hold actual meetings again. However, the uncertainty about the further easing of the national restrictions means that some meetings may be held virtually as webinars – you can join us by logging in with a computer, tablet or smartphone. Alternatively, some could be moved to a differently location to that originally planned. Please see below for the latest information and keep checking for the most reliable up-to-date position. Although we have all missed meeting each other the opportunity given by holding virtual meetings has led to larger attendances for us and other Centres so we are looking at ways of broadcasting live meetings to reach more people, again the latest details will be here on this website.

Our AGM for 2021-22 will be held on 28 April 2022. If you have any suggestions for future lectures, technical visits or other matters, or would like to be considered for a position on the Committee, we would be very pleased to hear from you.

Please see below the details of our 2021/22 season and I hope that you will be able to join us on as many occasions as possible. All our meetings are open to all, but we do ask that you register online (so that we can send you the joining instructions if necessary). If you would like a PDF copy of our 2021/22 programme please click here. Please note there is a date error in the printed programme, the February 2022 event is Monday 7 (SEVENTH) of February.
