A vast amount of our efforts is dedicated towards education of the younger generation. Every year we participate in the annual Otley Science Fair, an integral part of Otley Science Festival. Each year our committee volunteers bring interactive games and activities to encourage children of all ages to get hands-on and experience what engineering means.

Each year this fair attracts 100+ people of all ages, and each year we turn up with new activities and demonstrations of engineering across many sectors.
Check out the photos below to see what we brought to the table this year!

Technical Visits

Since the Young Member Panel's reappearance in the North Yorkshire area, a number of technical visits have been made to local companies. To cater for the broad range of our members interests these included:

Lectures and Workshops

We are keen to help young engineers to expand their knowledge on both technical and non-technical subjects. We do host various lectures and interactive workshops throughout the year targeting various areas of personal development. Topics covered so far ranged from Presentation Skills to Professional Registration.

The Speak Out for Engineering (SOfE) competition is organised annually by the IMechE's local volunteer groups. It was originally established in 1964 to challenge young engineers to prove they could "communicate effectively", which is still an important area in developing engineers today.

The competition provides young engineers with an excellent opportunity to demonstrate and develop their verbal and visual presentation skills and competence in public speaking.
