Description

The Speak Out for Engineering (SOfE) competition is organised annually by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' local volunteer groups. It was originally established in 1964 to challenge young engineers to prove that they could “communicate effectively”, which is still a focus in developing engineers today.

The competition provides young engineers with an excellent opportunity to demonstrate and develop their verbal and visual presentation skills and competence in public speaking.

Competitors must give an oral presentation on a subject relating to mechanical engineering, with 90% of the total marks being awarded for presentation skills and 10% for technical content.

Area heats will be judged by a panel of professionals chosen by the local committee and the winner and runner-up from each heat will be awarded £300 and £200 respectively, as well as a place in the Yorkshire Region Final (date/venue to be confirmed). The winner of the Final will be announced at the Yorkshire Regional Dinner on the 20th April 2018 and will be presented with The Philip Hilton Trophy (sponsored by Elevation Recruitment Group) and a cheque for £500. The runner-up will receive a cheque for £250.

Please submit your registration form (download below) with a 200 word synopsis of your chosen subject by Wednesday 27th October 2017.
