The Inaugural Meeting of the Yorkshire Branch was held in Leeds on 14 February 1921 meaning that it celebrates its Centenary in 2021. As part of the celebrations leading up to the centenary, a lecture on the subject will be delivered by Ashley Crossland.

Ashley graduated from Huddersfield Polytechnic and worked in the local area. His employer encouraged him to take an interest in IMechE affairs, and he has written several papers for IMechE conferences over the years. Two of his colleagues served as Yorkshire Regional Chairmen, and following this tradition, Ashley was pleased to be Regional Chairman in 2003/6. As such, Ashley has a long association with the IMechE Yorkshire Region, from serving on its Committee and also holding the post of Hon Treasurer in 2008/11. He has also served as the Automobile Division Yorkshire Centre Chairman and is currently the Centre’s Hon Secretary. He is therefore well placed to speak about the history of the Yorkshire Region.

Following the Centenary Lecture, there will be a mini tour of the Calderdale Industrial Museum. The Museum has gathered together this special collection over a number of years, representing a wide cross-section of industry that operated in and around Calderdale. Some of the machines are the only surviving examples in the country and have been placed in settings to try and re-enact a close representation to the time when they were fully operational in the not too distant past.

The evening will finish with pie & peas and a social gathering in a local hostelry near to the museum.
