East Yorkshire Formula Student Car in the Spotlight at the NEC

Hull University's 2011-12 Formula Student Car was proudly displayed at the NEC in October 2012 at the Annual Caravan & Motorhome Show, attended by over 90,000 people in 6 days.

The car took centre stage in “Swift City”, a complete hall at the NEC dominated by Swift Group products, and was presented in full livery including the IMechE logos and banners.

A number of the Team members attended the event, handing flyers to interested onlookers in a bid to promote the IMechE Young Members Panel and also generate some additional sponsorship for this season.

Team Background & Swift Group Involvement

In Late 2011 Students from the University of Hull approached The Swift Group to support their endeavour to design and build a single seat race car to compete in the prestigious international IMechE Formula Student Competition.
Being one of the largest employers in the East Yorkshire Region, the Swift Group have always enjoyed a good relationship with the local community and have spent the last few years working with a number of Universities, Institutions and research organisations to improve their engineering relationships.  Swift Group were the first company to support the newly formed racing team and took the lead on sponsorship for the 2011-2012 season.

With Swift's financial support and managerial guidance the team secured enough sponsors and expertise to successfully build their flagship vehicle, the HU-Challenger, aptly named after Swift's Challenger model.  The team competed against over 110 National and International teams at the Prestigious Silverstone Circuit in July 2012, their hard work and determination showed through in the performance of the HU-Challenger, which managed to place 46th in the sprint event.  As a first attempt, from a new team with a small budget, this was an achievement everyone was very proud of.

Swift Group have agreed to support the Team for another year and through a similar level of hard work and determination the team aim to design and build an even better vehicle for the 2012-2013 season.
