STEM activities in Yorkshire
The IMechE Yorkshire Region is doing a lot to inspire the next generation of budding engineers. See some of the recent activities below that our committee members have supported and perhaps consider volunteering your time.
STEMFest Leeds - 1st/2nd July 2026
The IMechE Yorkshire Northern Area team had a fantastic time volunteering at the
STEMFest Leeds 2026 event organised by RTC North. Day 1 started with the Primary aged children and Day 2 was for Secondary aged children participating in the hands-on Beam Bending and Tower Crane kit building activities. Lots of engaging conversations, problem solving and great team working on display with a good element of fun! The ability to link material selection to the construction and testing of the Tower Crane was very engaging and the Tower Crane building proved once again to be very competitive!
It was also great opportunity to network with the other organisations providing a wide range of exciting STEM activities and thought-provoking ideas for future career choices.
A big thank-you to all the volunteers who made this possible and also to the organisers RTC North who planned and managed another hugely successful event.

Get Up To Speed With STEM - 18th/19th March 2026
Get up to Speed with STEM is an annual event held at the Magna Science Adventure Centre in Rotherham, aiming to introduce, inform and inspire students, parents and teachers on the world of work. Each event is filled with fun and interactive exhibits from local employers to showcase their industry and employment opportunities.
For over 15 years, Get up to Speed with STEM has focused on and celebrated the Science, Technology, Engineering & Manufacturing sectors and our volunteers from the IMechE Yorkshire Region have been proud to support a double-stand at the event for many years.
