Welcome to the Yorkshire Centre of the Process Industries Division

Objectives of the Yorkshire Centre

  • Create an environment in which engineering knowledge can be readily shared between engineers working in the process industries of the region
  • Encourage the involvement of members in the operation and decision making process of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers
  • Arrange discussions, meetings, visits and seminars that cover topics of interest and relevance to technical and professional members working within the process industries in Yorkshire
  • Act as a link between the Process Industries Division at national level and the members of the Yorkshire Centre
  • Ensure that the Process Industries Board decisions and policies meet the needs of the members in the Yorkshire Region

Please contact us if you would like further information or would like to become involved in any activities or join our committee.

The activities of the Yorkshire Centre are arranged for the single purpose of providing professional support to the members. It is therefore essential that members make their requirements known to the centre.

Engineering Graduates for Industry: YOUR Perspective

Please click the link below to access a short survey where you are invited to share your experiences of the skills gap. Perhaps you are a graduate who has been part of an innovative scheme to arm you with soft skills, maybe you are an educator who is trying to incorporate a more diverse array of overlooked skills into your curriculum, or perhaps you are from an industry background and you have ideas on how to further develop the relationship between academic education and industry. Whatever you’re background, if you’ve got an idea or a story to share, we’d love to hear it!

New Material

Please take some time to look at the following booklet in the link below. It has been prepared to identify the information, training, and skill sets necessary to pursue a career in the Oil, Gas and Chemical industry as a mechanical engineer.

It is hoped that the information contained will be of value to apprentices, students and graduate engineers.

In 2022, the IMechE’s 175th anniversary year, the Institution launched its report ‘A Manifesto for the Future of International Collaborative Engineering’ authored by Dr Tim Fox. The report looks at the challenges and opportunities for international engineering collaboration, especially in the light of the covid-19 pandemic, climate change and emerging geopolitical trends. The key benefit is access to technology, approaches, systems that are particularly high in one country but not in another.
