Yorkshire Regional Dinner – 22nd March 2019

The IMechE Yorkshire Region celebrated another year of engineering achievements hosting its eighth annual Regional Dinner in the prestigious surroundings of the Cutlers’ Hall in Sheffield. The evening included a number of presentation ceremonies, and speeches made by the President of the Institution – Tony Roche, the Master Cutler – Nick Cragg, and the Yorkshire Region Chairman – Alan Brattan.

Over 160 guests attended this year’s event, including past IMechE Presidents, Angela Smith MP and other prominent, local business people and academics. A number of companies and universities supported the Dinner including AESSEAL, ANSYS, Atkins Global, Elevation Recruitment Group, Liberty Speciality Steels, Score (Europe), Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield.

In addition to the customary presentation of certificates to members who had achieved Corporate Membership or become a Fellow of the Institution within the past 12 months, the evening also included prize presentations to the Winner and the Runner-up of the Region's Final of the Speak Out for Engineering Competition 2019. Receiving the first prize of £500 and The Philip Hilton Trophy was winner Abhinav Paul Kongari, with his presentation on "Computing blood flow via modelling of pressure gradients within coronary arteries". The Runner-up prize of £250 was presented to Callum Tinker for his presentation on electroforming. 

The evening was rounded off with music and dancing till midnight.
