    Material selection is always a balance between cost and performance. In the UK nuclear industry there have been unforeseen materials challenges, particularly regarding longevity of assets & design intent. This presentation will have a particular focus on the nuclear industry in West Cumbria and some of the materials challenges relating to metallic & non-metallic components will be highlighted with many of these being relevant to other sectors such as petrochemical plants, defence and oil & gas.
