Description

Municipal solid waste (MSW) is considered one of the major environmental problems all over the world. Solid waste in Egypt can be classified into industrial solid waste (25-30 million tons/year), agricultural solid waste (20-25 million tons/year) and municipal solid waste (15-20 million tons/year). Municipal solid waste consists of hazardous and non-hazardous waste. It is a fact that solid waste composition differs from one governorate to another according to their culture and socioeconomic level.

However, solving the problem in Egypt is challenging because of two factors: the low socioeconomic level of the majority of the population and their lack of awareness of the problem size.
