Description

Decarbonisation of the electricity supply means the largest effort to the whole community decarbonisation. Decarbonisation is a pressing priority for CLP, the major power utility in Hong Kong, China, India, Australia and Asia Pacific, as the energy industry undergoes rapid change. The expectation of the stakeholder is ever growing and creating a series of opportunities. While phasing out coal firing is crucial, it is equally important to explore alternative "GREEN" fuels as substitutes for traditional fossil fuels. Hydrogen emerges as a promising solution in this regard.

The lecture will present CLP's decarbonisation road-map, highlighting the transition to pilot hydrogen firing at its Black Point Power Station in Hong Kong. The challenges associated with this transformation and the technology development to overcome them will be discussed, as well as insights from successful international cases where hydrogen deployment has proven effective will be drawn.
