Technical visit
01 August 2026 10:00 - 11:30
This event has finished
Description

This technical visit to O·PARK2 in Hong Kong aims to deepen participants’ understanding of food waste treatment and the engineering design of organic resources recovery centres. The visit will cover the overall process from food waste reception and pretreatment through anaerobic digestion (AD) to biogas handling and utilisation, highlighting both environmental benefits and key engineering considerations.

The programme will introduce Hong Kong’s food waste treatment framework and the respective roles of O·PARK1 and O·PARK2 within it. By outlining their differences in treatment capacity, target waste sources and system configuration, participants will gain a clearer picture of how the two plants complement each other in supporting the city’s waste‑to‑energy and resource recovery strategy.

As our members are mainly professional engineers, the visit will emphasise technical knowledge sharing. Guided access to selected E&M plant rooms, including the control room, pretreatment system, AD system and biogas system, will be requested so that participants can better appreciate the practical application of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and control engineering in a modern treatment facility.

This technical visit to O·PARK2 will provide a valuable opportunity for professional exchange, enabling participants to broaden their exposure to advanced food waste treatment technologies, operational control strategies and the implementation of sustainable waste management solutions in Hong Kong.
