Description

Symposium on Energy Use – LNG, H2 & Waste Recycle Energy
(Engineering the Society to Achieve Carbon Zero with Clean Energy)

A. Symposium on 10 March 2023:
China is targeting to achieve a carbon peak by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2060, while Hong Kong being the foremost internationalized city of China also vows to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. To achieve these challenging goals, researchers and technical experts are exploring various zero-carbon energy resources. In supporting these goals, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) Hong Kong Branch is organising the Symposium on 10 March 2023 in Hong Kong, with an aim to provide a platform for the government, industries, and academia sectors in the Great Bay Area and beyond to share their view and industry best practices in the emerging technologies and applications in Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), Hydrogen (H2), and Waste Recycle Energy.

Who should attend:
Policymakers, engineers, consultants, and researchers, as well as practitioners and industrialists with interests in Engineering the Society to Achieve Carbon Zero with Clean Energy.

B. Pre-Symposium Workshop on 9 March 2023:
Workshop Topic: Introduction to Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) with Gas Engineering 101

Today, most industrial process plants including power plants, waste incineration and landfill plants, sewerage treatment plants etc. involve the recovering, cracking down and production, transmission, storage and conditioning, and combusting fuel gases of different forms. It is essential to know about both physical and combustion characteristics of fuel gases and industrial gases, their safe handling & storage, their applications and safe, efficient combustion.

Instructor: Ir KC Ng, FIMechE, FHKIE
Ir KC Ng, Fellow member of IMechE, HKIE, has been practicing as a process plant specialist with over 45 years extensive experience in planning, designing and engineering power generation plants, industrial gas & energy process plants with gas applications, including natural gas, biogas, LPG, & industrial gases. After spending 20 years with China Light & Power in power generation projects, he started HAR Consultants Ltd, and has been its Engineering Director since then, specializing in gas and industrial process plant engineering.
