Welcome to the Hong Kong Young Member Section

Who we are

The Young Member Section of the Institution's Hong Kong Branch is a non-profit group that works to promote the engineering profession and Institution membership through organising visits, seminars, strengthening communities, and campaigning for change.

We are a group of dynamic and enthusiastic Young Members (that is, Institution members who have held professional registration for ten years of fewer) who come together as part of the YMS, and organise events for other local engineering professionals.

What we do

The YMS works in the best interests of its members. We aim to elp developing engineers acquire new skills and progress towrds gaining chartered status, and 'improve the world through engineering'. We are active on a worldwide scale, addressing issues related to energy, the environment, education and transport.

Throughout the year we organise a wide range of different activities:

  • Technical visits, seminars and workshops
  • Skill-development events such as presentation skills workshops
  • Social events such as gatherings and team building camps
  • Competitions such as Speak Out for Engineering presentation competition
  • Volunteer service to the community

Get involved

Many young engineers in Hong Kong are inspired and motivated to work voluntarily for the Institution's  Hong Kong Young Member Section (YMS).

In doing so, our Young Members move further along their aim of achieving Professional Engineer status, while meeting and networking with other young engineers to gain valuable knowledge and experience that helps them with their careers.

There are several student chapters in Hong Kong, including:

The University of Hong Kong (HKU)
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK)
• The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)
City University of Hong Kong (CityU)
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU)
University of Macau (UM)
• Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi)
• IVE (Tsing Yi)

If you think you can help us, why not get involved?
