Here is the exciting news about the Oceania Regional winner of SOfE 2024 (also the winner from Victorian & Tasmanian local heats), Thomas Fisher will travel to London, UK this September and participate the Global Finals 2024. This is the message from him how he found the experience in the local and regional heats 2024.
"Reflecting on my experience, I found the competition to be extremely positive and rewarding. I saw it as a valuable opportunity to further develop my public speaking and presentation skills, particularly in communicating technical ideas in a clear and engaging way. Preparing for the heats also doubled as excellent practice for my final-year research project presentation.
One of the highlights for me was the Q&A sessions at the end of each round. I was asked insightful questions and received constructive feedback that helped me refine my delivery and communication skills. The competition played a part in my professional growth and undoubtedly contributed to me receiving the Technical Excellence in Product Design Engineering award in 2024 at Swinburne.
Now as a graduate Product Design Engineer, I would highly recommend the competition to any engineering student. Regardless of where you are in your studies, it’s a fantastic opportunity to strengthen your soft skills, meet passionate like‑minded peers, and potentially progress all the way to the global finals!
Best of luck with the 2025 heats — I’m looking forward to seeing it inspire the next generation of engineers."
