IMechE Malaysia in partnership with IMechE UNITEN organised the prestigious IMechE Leadership Conference 2019 (ILC 2019) at Sunway University on the 17th August 2019, with 412 young leaders from all across Malaysia participating with Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah AO, Chairman of Sunway Group and Founding trustee of the Jeffrey Cheah Foundation as the prime keynote speaker.

The leadership themed conference also saw notable speakers Ms. Shazreeza Abdul Kadir, Group Global Affairs AirAsia, Mr. Animesh Mukherjee, Chief People Officer for Lazada Malaysia, Mr. Tee Lin Yik, CEO Tee Intellectual Property and Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Vinesh Thiruchelvam, Chairman IMechE South East Asia sharing their vast experience across numerous industries. The speakers were all professionals, hence were able to share insightful ideas and experiences throughout the years to instill leadership into todays youth. They all shared their stories on how they built something from nothing, and how they became who they are today

The pinnacle of the event was the prime keynote speech, where Tan Sri  Jeffrey Cheah AO shared his vision and his life’s work, Sunway Group. Tan Sri explained how he wishes to educate the youth to bring out the best in themselves.

“Keep asking ‘Why not?’ as you make your life journey. Do so with integrity as your guide, humility as your virtue and pursuit of excellence as your choice”, Tan Sri shared, using Sunway University and Sunway Group as key examples.

The turnout was excellent, with students registering from various universities, including Uniten, Monash, UTM, Sunway, UUM, USIM and many more. The team from IMechE UNITEN Student Chapter added, “The young leaders were absolutely satisfied with the value they gained during the conference and are excited to plan their life ahead”.
