Welcome to the Southern Asia Region

The Southern Asia Region (SAR) provides support to around 7100 members residing in India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Maldives. Over the last six years, SAR has become one of the largest regions internationally. Region is supported by one branch, two groups and country representatives. Student Chapters are functioning in India, Sri Lanka,  Pakistan and Bangladesh. More information will be found in the respective web pages.

Members and prospective members are assisted with their needs and interaction among members is at a high level through AGMs, ordinary meeting, seminars, lectures, industry visits, annual dinners and newsletters.

We work with local branches of UK based engineering institutions and the local institutions. This has raised awareness and the profile of the IMechE. Various events are organized by the Branches and the Groups with details mentioned on their respective pages.

Sri Lanka has its degrees accredited according to Washington Accord. India is in the process of accrediting the degrees at many universities. Pakistan has become an Associate member of the Washington Accord.
