Call for Nominations: International Region Elections 2026

Would you like to have a say in how the future of the Institution is shaped internationally? The Institution has more than 30,000 members based outside the UK and this number is growing all the time.

In 2026 the positions of Chair and Young Member Representative for the South Asia Region will be up for election.

We are asking for nominations for these roles until the 06 March 2026 so, if eligible, please consider this for yourself or someone that you know.

This is an ideal opportunity to influence the Institution’s future international development, so please download the nominee pack where you will find an application form and more information about the criteria and duties for each role.

This election process, endorsed by the International Strategy Board Chair and Vice Chair, is being facilitated by HQ to ensure transparency and fairness.

The Southern Asia Region (SAR) provides support to around 5000 members residing in India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and Maldives. Over the last six years, SAR has become one of the largest regions internationally. Region is supported by one branch, one group and country representatives. Student Chapters are functioning in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. More information will be found in the respective web pages.

Members and prospective members are assisted with their needs and interaction among members is at a high level through AGMs, ordinary meeting, seminars, lectures, industry visits, annual dinners and newsletters.

We work with local branches of UK based engineering institutions and the local institutions. This has raised awareness and the profile of the IMechE. Various events are organized by the Branches and the Groups with details mentioned on their respective pages.

Sri Lanka has its degrees accredited according to Washington Accord. India is in the process of accrediting the degrees at many universities.
