THE COMPETITION

Jibran Khalid Memorial Leadership and Communication Challenge aims to develop the presentation skills of the participants realizing the need for the engineers to pitch their ideas and projects throughout their academic career as well as in their professional life.

Affiliates, Associates or Young Members are eligible to participate in competition. The participant will deliver a presentation on a mechanical engineering related subject.

All participants must submit a 200 words abstract, as a notice to the organizers to confirm participation.

The time distribution will be as follows:

           20 minutes - Presentation

           10 minutes - Questions and Discussion with the Judging Panel

90% of the total weightage is given to presentation with the remaining 10% allocation for technical content. This is done so that all presentations have an equal chance of winning, regardless of the degree of technical content in each presentation.

The prize money for the competition is:

1st Prize - £ 200
2nd Prize - £150

If a participant is eligible for the competition, he/she can apply using the Entrant Application Form and send it to IMechE Pakistan Group. A shortlisting process will be conducted by a panel appointed, the rules of which are as follows:

  1. The shortlisting process will be undertaken by a Selection Panel appointed by the IMechE Pakistan Group. The panel has a right to select or disqualify anyone.

  2. The shortlisting process will be based on the 200 word synopsis submitted by the participant in their Entrant Application form submitted for participation in the event. Failure to submit this synopsis will result in immediate disqualification.

  3. The decision of the selection panel will be final and will not be subject to any discussion.

  4. The participant must fill and send the Entrant Application Form to IMechE Pakistan Group to be considered for the competition.

The participants of the Jibran Khalid Open Engineering Exhibition may also be granted Financial Sponsorship (full/partial) in order to facilitate their participation in the event. The decision of the participants to whom this Financial Sponsorship shall be granted lies solely with the IMechE Pakistan Group.

The participants must adhere to the following rules:

  1. They must submit their synopsis along with a filled copy of the Entrant Form to IMechE Pakistan Group to be considered for the competition.

  2. The participant can present on any engineering project that they have completed or are currently working on.

  3. The participants must take care of the following time limits during their presentation:

    20 minutes: Presentation

    10 minutes: Questions and Discussion with the judges

  4. The participants must ensure that they completely understand the judging criteria and the marks distribution and are advised to design their presentation accordingly.

  5. The participant must deliver an oral presentation on any engineering project that they have completed or are currently working on. They will make use of a presentation software to aid their explanation and can make use of other presentation aids, if they feel like doing so.

  6. It is not necessary for the participant to bring a prototype or a working model with them for the presentation.

  7. The presentation must be given individually even if the project being presented on was a group project.

  8. The participants cannot object to the decision of the judging panel.

  9. The participant has full right to see their own mark sheet after the results have been announced.

  10. The participant has the full right to request for a verbal feedback regarding their presentation from the judges at the end of the event.


JUDGING PANEL

The judging panel will consist of both technical and non-technical judges as the purpose of the competition is to develop the presentation skills of the participants. Accordingly 90% of the marks are for the presentation skills while 10% are for the project being presented on. The detailed marks breakdown is:

 The marks breakdown means that a less technological idea can compete with a relatively more technological idea, depending on the presentation skills of both the presenters.
