It was Britain that developed the world’s first nuclear weapon delivery system, based around the V-Bombers of the Royal Air Force (RAF). Yet two key events in 1957 and 1960 (The Soviet launch of Sputnik the first artificial earth satellite, and the shooting down of Francis Gary Powers’ CIA spy plane over Soviet air space) would force Britain to quickly implement new deterrent strategies. This presentation explores these two events, as well as the various airborne systems and their capabilities from 1950 to the present day. We’ll also look at some of the new hypersonic missiles that the UK plans to bring into service in 2030.

Please book this event to give us an idea of numbers (although booking is not essential).
